• Talk with a buddy, because these families have been displaced, what are some of the struggles that these families mention?

There is conflict everywhere they go and there is a very big food shortage everybody is fighting for there food and the have trouble finding good clean drinking water.

Research other examples of conflict within Africa. Find out which countries have experienced conflict in the past. Which countries are still feeling the effects of ongoing conflict? What are  some of the impacts on families and communities as a result of conflict. Share your findings using your own words in a short paragraph below.

Conflict is like if South Sudan and North Sudan were fighting

Conflicts is like when people are fighting with weapons and firearms and there are gunshots everywhere. Conflict occurs when like country's leader doesn’t like another leader so they declare a war and they start conflict. When conflict happens lots of families get scared and confused of why people want conflict. And because of conflict people have food and water shortage because people are to scared to even go outside.

What do you think the impact of conflict has on children and their education in South Sudan?

They are scared of why there a fighting and it is hard for them to learn because they are scared of what is going on.

What long-term consequences might a lack of good education have on the children there?

• Recognise the impact of a drought and a famine on families and communities
• Describe what happened in South Sudan during the famine in 2017

Activity 1

Create a definition for drought and famine. What are the similarities between these two terms?  

Drought:A drought is when you have to many dry and hot days but no wet days and the ground starts to dry up too much and their water starts to dry and then they have nothing to drink and they could get really dehydrated.

Famine:Famine is when there is Food shortage and water shortage and the parents can’t feed their children.

Similarities: The similarities between a famine and a drought is the both end up in insufficient food supply and a water shortage.

Research: How many famines have been declared in the last decade?

Roughly 40 in the past decade.

Write a short paragraph where you discuss the connection between the conflict and the famine, and the situation of poverty for many in South Sudan. Which of these factors can be influenced by human decisions?

If the conflict keeps on going on like this everybody will be going into poverty and will not be able to for food or water and the conflict can put some peoples life at state because there will be a supply shortage of food and drink. Conflict could destroy peoples villages and homes so they might have to find somewhere safe to go and live where there is not as much conflict happening and there is clear water.

Watch Nandoor’s Fish . Write 2-3 sentences about the impact of both the conflict and the famine on Nandoor and her family.

It is difficult for her to feed her family She was forced to feed the whole village.

It took her and her 2 months to find safety away from the conflict.

They had to eat food and drink the water in the Jungle.

Activity 3

Even though we are almost 15, 000 kilometres away, talk with a buddy in ways that New Zealanders can help the people in South Sudan.                                   Meals ready to eat

We can send them fresh water bottles and send the MRE and some nice things so they can enjoy going outside.

On the  12 November 1988 Russell Westbrook was born Russell Westbrook was born and raised in Long beach,California . Russell Westbrook was educated at Leuzinger high school and the University of California . In 2008 at the age of 20 Russell Westbrook was drafted to the NBA and he played for the Seattle supersonics. And then In 2008 the sonics changed names to the Oklahoma city thunder ever since Russell has been playing for Okc
How was/is this person great and what they have contributed to society i.e. service, leadership, accomplishments, talents.	Russell is a good person because he is so committed to playing Basketball if his team is he will get them back up and running on the court he even came back from a knee injury and the saw no sign of rust in performance  he played the same for 2 games after coming back from a knee injury!.
What qualities did this person display that has lead to them being great? i.e. empathetic,  humble etc.	He is very inspiring because he is always playing his best and is always committed to the NBA and doesn’t give up to me that is inspiration.
How has this person shown greatness in ways others haven’t? What has lead to them standing out?	To me he is a great person because he is inspirational to many people around because of his playing style,athleticm and because he never loses courage in his team and even if they have a heavy lose he is always there to say something inspiring.
Why do you personally think this person has displayed greatness?	I think Russell Westbrook show greatness when he is on the court encourage teammates to have a go and encourages kids and adults around the world to play basketball and he hopes to see some young ones in the NBA.

Swimming sports

On the 15th of February we had Swimming sports at Swimming we competed in Freestyle,Breaststroke,Butterfly and Backstroke you had the choice of what style you wanted
to do and you could choose from swimming 50m,25m and Width I chose to do 25m Freestyle and Backstroke and so did a few friends .

And also that day everyone in the school was competing in races if you came
1st,2nd or 3rd in the 50m race you would go to zones and if you do great in that centrals and so on.
 Some of my friends made it to zones.

Touch Rugby and also some Questions

On a Wednesday we go to the mighty McFarlane park to play the mighty game of touch.
At touch we play against other schools or teams that have been created by players parents.
,But when touch is cancelled I feel sad because I really love to play touch because it is one of my favourite sports or anything that contains a ball I like. I call my team the mighty mighty vipers cause our team are made of really good players that show great sportsmanship and are always nice to people and have great personality.

For touch we wear singlets that say St Francis and I also play for two teams they both are really great teams. And I am part of the twinkle toes because I am one of the best steppers in my team and I am one of the quickest.

This book is based upon Ewan the chocolate maker.

This books explains what fair-trade means and the it shows the

steps of chocolate.

Chocolate supplies is mostly from Africa or Dominican republic.

Ewans warehouse full of chocolate increased the price of there chocolate by 60%.

All of the fair-trade companies were made in a huge factory.

Ewan Cameron made a the first fair-trade company in 1973 in the Christchurch suburb of Sydenham.The aim of Ewans business was to make heaps of money. Ewan said he agrees it is good to get what you want for the cheapest prices ,but he also wants to make money.

Ewans team investigated to see how much it would cost to buy the warehouse for Ewans Chocolate factory. Until 2012 Ewans chocolate was made in a Huge factory
